PROJECT FUND RAISING

The Canadian partners raised their share of the capital, $100,000 US., through a “Revitalization Fund". They encouraged ALL friends of Tolstoy worldwide to contribute to this Fund

The campaign identified potentially supportive groups across Canada and the world to help raise funds for, and awareness of, the Revitalization Fund. It included:
  • brochures and other promotional media
  • this website
  • presentations
  • press releases
  • media interviews
This Revitalization Project had the endorsement and support of the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ, the Canadian Doukhobor Society, the Doukhobor Centennial Coordinating Committee, and Selkirk College, Centre for Russian and North American Studies. It was coordinated by the Friends of Tolstoy Committee comprised of Doukhobors as well as friends of Tolstoy from various geographical areas of Canada.

The Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ, the Canadian Doukhobor Society, the Calgary Doukhobor Cultural Society and the Doukhobor Cultural Society of Saskatchewan Inc. collected donations for the purchase of equipment.

All donations to this project were tax deductable. Donors contributing $100 or more will have their name displayed in an appropriate location at Yasnaya Polyana.

YOUR SUPPORT

During a recent visit to British Columbia, Vladimir Tolstoy, the great, great grandson of Lev Tolstoy and the Director of Yasnaya Polyana, shared his vision of transforming Yasnaya Polyana into a self-sustainable island of spiritual contemplation that would not only represent Tolstoy's beliefs, but serve as a symbol of hope for the Russian people, and the thousands of others who visit Yasnaya Polyana from around the world.

In light of the Centennial, every person of Doukhobor descent was encouraged to contribute $100 per family member, or $1 for every year they, their predecessors and descendants have had the good fortune to live in Canada.

We thank all people, businesses and organizations who joined this effort to revitalize Yasnaya Polyana. They were united in a spirit of harmony, each according to their means.
