March 6, 2006 - Tolstoy & the Doukhobors - Multimedia Project

The first public screenings of the DVD "Tolstoy and the Doukhobors" were held during the special presentations on Yasnaya Polyana at the Brilliant cultural Center and Grand Forks USCC Center on March 4th and 5th. "Tolstoy and the Doukhobors" is a multimedia project which presents the historic relationship between Lev Nikolaevitch Tolstoy and the Doukhobors.

All proceeds from the DVD sales will further provide benevolent assistance to the Children's СЕРОТСКОЙ ДОМ at Yasnaya Polyana. A Children's Orphanage which is in great need, and worthy of all our assistance.

The Friends of Tolstoy are pleased to announce the opening of the Bakery Cafe at Yasnaya Polyana has indeed been confirmed for this September 21, the International Day of Peace.

The delegation of Canadian Doukhobors travelling to Russia to take part in the opening, bid adieau and received a public blessing at the Declaration Day meeting in Grand Forks on Sunday, August 7,2005.

It is our pleasure to announce that our centennial project of establishing a Bakery cafe at Yasnaya Polyana, L.N. Tolstoy's estate/museum complex south of Moscow, Russia, has come to a successful conclusion.

Thanks to the generous support of Doukhobors and our friends across Canada who have donated $100,000 US towards this joint venture, and the co-operation of the administration at Yasnaya Polyana headed by Vladimir I. Tolstoy, we are happy to inform the public that the official opening of the Bakery Cafe will take place on September 21, recognized around the world as International Day of Peace.

To mark this historic occasion, the Friends of Tolstoy are organizing a delegation of up to forty people to travel to Russia this Fall. Anyone who has donated to the Bakery Cafe project is invited to join this delegation on a first come, first served basis. Following the return of Vladimir Il'ich Tolstoy from his visit to Castlegar in April of 2004, the renovation on the Bakery/Café building picked up momentum at Yasnaya Polyana.

November 20, 2004 - Fundraising Goal Reached

The Friends of Tolstoy announced reaching their goal of $100,000 US for a Bakery/Cafe at Yasnaya Polyana, the Tolstoy family estste/museum complex located South of Moscow.
