Wording on Plaque at Bakery Cafe

This Bakery Cafe was developed in partnership by the Yasnaya Polyana Administration and the Friends of Tolstoy to commemorate the centenary of the migration of the Doukhobors from Russia to Canada in 1899.

It stands as testimony to the enduring gratituded of these Christian pacifsts to Lev Nikolaevitch Tolstoy for his moral and material support in their time of need, and to the continuing friendship between the Tolstoy family and the Doukhobor community.

Formally opened in 2005, on September 21st - designated by the United Nations as the International Day of Peace - this Bakery Cafe is dedicated to Toil and Peaceful Life.
